The Difference Between Ar-Rahman and Ar-Raheem

بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم

Sheikh Muhammad ibn Salih Al Uthaymin said,

Ar-Rahman: The possessor of vast mercy.

Ar-Raheem: The granter of mercy to whomever He wills.

The difference between the two is that the first relates to the existence of mercy as a description for Him, whereas the second is related to it being an action of His, as He grants (or bestows) mercy to whomever He wills from His creation. [شرح لمعة الاعتقاد]

Sheikh Abdur Razzaq ibn Abdil Muhsin Al Abbad said,

Ar-Rahman: He to whom which mercy is a description.

Ar-Raheem: The doer of the action of being merciful to His servants, for this reason the Exalted says:

“And with the believers He is most merciful (رحيمًا) ” [Al-Ahzab: 43]

“..certainly He is to them full of Kindness, Most Merciful (رحيمٌ)” [At-Taubah: 117]

So Ar-Rahman is on a (certain) scale (in the Arabic language related to morphology) that indicates a permanent, inseparable, and perfect attribute. In other words; from His attributes is mercy. Whereas Ar-Raheem indicates the spreading of mercy to those whom it is bestowed upon. Meaning those who received mercy via (His) action. [فقه الأسماء الحسنى]

The Condition Of Muhammad Ibrahim Of Egypt: Sheikh Abu Abdil A’laa Khalid Al Misri

بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم

Shaykh Abu Abdil A’alaa Khalid ibn Muhammad Uthman Al Misri was asked the following question, what is the condition of Muhammad Ibrahim in Egypt and is knowledge to be taken from him?

His response: That which is apparent from his condition is that he opposes the way of the scholars in some subjects. He is excessive in the matter of declaring salafis to be innovators, and in declaring salafis to be ignorant without due right. From another angle he shows no respect for the scholars as it relates to who they praise and criticize. Thus there may come to him the multiple praise of the major scholars for someone from Ahlus Sunnah yet he shows no consideration for such, in fact he throws it behind his back. Unfortunately he sees himself to be more knowledgeable than the scholars about individuals criticized and declared to be innovators. This was the exact path taken by Mahmood Al Haddaad Al Misri during his initial onset. In the beginning he opposed the scholars concerning their criticisms and commendations thus he was excessive.

An additional characteristic of Al Haddaad is he would go beyond bounds with regards to himself, and his followers were the same. This is something we have noticed in this young man (Muhammad Ibrahim). He and his followers go beyond bounds concerning him, they raise him to the level of the imams just as one of them did in a treatise he authored, therein he mentioned him alongside the imam of criticism and commendation Rabee ibn Hadee. He considered the well grounded specialist of criticism and commendation of the time to be: The lofty scholar Rabee ibn Hadee and then mentioned his teacher, this young man in Egypt, Muhammad Ibrahim. So he considers him to be a well grounded specialist in criticism and commendation without any scholar stating this.

As for imam Rabee he is our teacher and did not reached this level except with attestation from the major scholars. As for these individuals (who are) raising their teacher to this level by way of their own attestation, without any attestation from who? The scholars with regards to him (Muhammad Ibrahim). This is subsequent to their ignorance and behavior which was the way of the first haddaadis. So you’ll find in them dumbfounding arrogance with regards to accepting the truth, dumbfounding arrogance with regards to their brothers, and even with their teachers or scholars, and the subject is lengthy with regards to clarifying the likes of such, however I (would like to) advise my brothers to seek knowledge from the well known, major scholars. Those who have been praised by scholars and imams of guidance that came before them. And (also from) whosoever traverses their path from the students of knowledge. (Take) from the people of knowledge who do not traverse the path of excess and arrogance with regards to the truth.

Extravagance And Wastefulness With Food And Drink: Sheikh Salih Alish-Sheikh

بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم

The Exalted says:

و كلوا و اشْرَبوا و لا تُسرِفوا إنه لا يحبُّ المُسْرِفين

“And eat and drink and do not be extravagant surely He does not love the extravagant.” [Al-A’raf: 31]

And He says:

و لا تُبذِّر تبذيراً إنَّ المبذِّرين كانوا إخوانَ الشياطين و كان الشيطانُ لِربِّه كَفوراً

“…and do not spend wastefully. Indeed the spendthrifts are brothers of the devils, and surely the devil is ungrateful to his Lord.” [Al-Isra: 26-27]

Wastefulness is offering an excessive amount (of food and drink) that goes beyond what is good with regards to being generous with the guests, whereas its consumption or being given in charity is better. As for it eventually being thrown away (due to excess) this is to show contempt for Allah’s blessings and it is distributing it in a way that is not pleasing to Him. This issue, especially considering the fact that people are suffering from hunger, is feared to be a means for the befalling of punishments. Amr ibn Shuaib narrated from his father, who narrated from his grandfather that the Messenger -sallahu alayhi wa salaam- said, “Eat, drink, and wear that which is not mixed with neither extravagance nor arrogance.” Collected by Ahmad, An-Nisaa’ee, Ibn Majah, and others with a good chain of transmission.

Existing Physical Traces Of The Prophet -sallahu alayhi wa salaam-: Shaykh Rabee Ibn Hadee

بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم

Q: Because you mentioned the perspiration of the Prophet -sallahu alayhi wa salaam- I wanted to know if there remains any of his physical traces like his hair, and if so how do we seek blessings from such?

A: Today there is nothing from his physical traces, and whoever claims such is a fraudulent liar!

We went to India and found a group of people claiming that they had a strand of the Prophet’s -sallahu alayhi wa salaam- hair, they are liars and the only thing with them is deceit. We also saw in I believe Pakistan or Bangladesh a masjid wherein it is claimed that his -sallahu alayhi salaam- footprint is therein. Also in Delhi there is a masjid its imam is (named) Bukhari and he has a good reputation (there), Europeans both men and women resembling the destitute travel there to that place in the masjid. They claim there is therein  a physical trace of the Prophet -sallahu alayhi wa salaam- in which a structure similar to a dome is built over. As a result you will see the women acting dishonorably and the men spectating, looking at the claimed footprint of the Prophet -sallahu alayhi wa salaam.

I saw this evil and went to the imam in order to advise him, so i said to him, you all claim that the Prophet -sallahu alayhi wa salaam- came to this place and this is his footprint? He replied, the people claim such. I said, O my brother, I have read (and studied) history and we know that the Messenger -sallahu alayhi wa salaam- was raised to the heavens, he went from Mecca to Medina, and he mobilized war expeditions to well known places like Tabuk, however we did not find anywhere in history where the Messenger -sallahu alayhi wa salaam- came to Delhi and stood at this place. He was not able to respond with anything convincing. Afterwards I talked to his father when he came and there was a salafi translator with me, who said, these claims (of the people) are atrocious.

Subsequent to that he informed me about when King Saud visited India and went to Varanasi which is a stronghold of idolatry, it is to them like Mecca, therein are an abundance of idols. So when they were informed of his visit they covered some of the idols, and how is this? Indeed it’s (from) the awe (or dignity) of monotheism. Then he came to the masjid and prayed therein, so the people said to him, here is the footprint of the Prophet -sallahu alayhi wa salaam- he immediately recognized it as a lie so he walked on and did not go near that area.

The implementer of tawheed has insight and comprehension, whereas the people of innovation have with them stupidity, ignorance, and wickedness. Thus the claims are many. In Turkey they claim to have a strand of his -sallahu alayhi wa salaam- hair, some claim they have the quranic manuscript of Ali in which he wrote with his own hand. These are lies. Allah’s set way with regards to these affairs is that they are no more (they’ve elapsed and are nonexistent today) as He has ordained such.

Consuming Blood: Shaykh Rabee Ibn Hadee

بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم

Q: Is it permissible to consume blood extracted from a human whether it be from a wound or cupping, as it is affirmed that a companion consumed the blood of the messenger -sallahu alayhi wa salaam- from cupping?

A: Allah says:

إنَّما حرّم عليكم الميتة و الدم و لحم الخنزير و ما أُهِلَّ به لغير الله

“He has only made prohibited for you (to consume) dead animals, blood, the flesh of swine, and the slaughtered as a sacrifice to other than Allah…” [Al-Baqara: 172]

Blood is forbidden. I have doubt regarding the authenticity of the story of Ibn Zubair drinking the blood of the Messenger -sallahu alayhi wa salaam and I will research it if Allah wills. Moreover The Messenger’s status is not like any other besides him, may Allah bless you. As for the consuming of blood it is forbidden, and the blood of the prophets has the utmost of sanctity.
