What Do Muslims Believe?
We, the Muslims believe in the Oneness of Allah (God) in all aspects.
What is meant is that there is a clear difference between the Creator and the creation, and that there is nothing whatsoever that can be compared to the Creator.
We believe that Allah (God) is the Lord of everything, and there is no lord besides Him. We believe that He (alone) created the Heavens and the Earth and everything that is found in them (whether seen or unseen), without the help of anyone or anything.
We believe that He is the Sole Possessor, Creator, Provider, Sustainer, and Maintainer of everything. He is the One who brings life into existence and the One who causes death. He is not in need of, nor does He depend upon anything, but everyone and everything depends upon Him.
We believe that He created humanity for one purpose; to worship Him alone, and that He has placed everything in the Earth as an aid for mankind to achieve this goal. Worship to Allah should be the number one focus in everyone's life and everything else besides that is secondary.
We believe that all acts of worship are due to Allah alone: supplication, fear, hope, dependency, prayer, fasting, obedience, submission, seeking help, repentance, vowing, sacrificing, and other than that from the various acts of worship.
We believe that if anyone does any act of worship for other than Allah (God) then they have committed the worse sin in creation.
We believe in accountability, which means that every single human being will be judged for their actions. Thus everyone who obeys Allah and worships Him alone will receive His Mercy and Forgiveness. Likewise everyone who disobeys Him and worships other than Him will receive His Wrath and Punishment. No man will be responsible for the deeds of another. The father will not be judged for the sins of the son, nor vice versa. No man can die for another man's sins; on the contrary, every individual will be held accountable for what his own hands put forth.
We believe that all the Prophets and Messengers including Noah, Abraham, Isaac, Ishmael, Jacob, Joseph, Job, Jonah, Lot, Moses, Aaron, David, Solomon, John, Jesus the son of Mary, and Muhammad (the last Prophet and Messenger) came with this invitation. The Prophets called the people to submission and willful compliance to Allah, and this is the religion of Islam to which we the Muslims invite humanity.
What Do Muslims Believe About Jesus the son of Mary?
We the Muslims believe in the prophethood and messengership of Jesus the son of Mary. What is meant is that he was a willful and compliant servant of Allah (God) who was sent with a message from Allah to be a source of guidance as a means to prosperity and success -in this life and the Hereafter- for whomever followed him.
We believe that Jesus is Allah's word imposed on Mary, it being "be" and he -as a result- became (i.e., he came into existence within her womb without her ever being touched by a man). His being brought into existence by Allah's command "be" is a sign/evidence of the might, power, knowledge, and divine capability of Allah which is indicative of Him being capable of what we humans deem to be impossible. Likewise, it was a sign/evidence indicating the legitimacy of Jesus' prophethood and messengership.
We believe Jesus was a flesh and bone man from the descendants of Israel who had no share in divinity. We believe that he performed miracles like causing the blind to see, healing the leper, breathing life into the clay bird, and raising the dead. However, these miracles were impossible for him to perform without the assistance and permission of Allah. In other words, Allah granted him the ability to perform these miracles and Allah willed it to be. Additionally, these miracles were a testimony to the truthfulness of his prophethood and messengership.
We believe that Jesus was sent to the descendants of Israel exclusively and not to every tribe and nation. He was their long awaited messiah and the last prophet and messenger sent to them. He warned them about a severe chastisement for whomever turned away from the guidance Allah with which he was sent, and gave glad-tidings to whoever submitted to the message he was instructed to convey. Ultimately, he was the means for the descendants of Israel to receive Allah's mercy, pleasure, and forgiveness.
We believe that the myth that Jesus died on the cross in order to atone for the sins of humanity is false due to several reasons. First: No man can die for the sins of another. Whatever man earns with his hands is what he will receive. Furthermore, if a man falls into sin, then he should turn towards Allah with sincere repentance as Allah hears the calls of His creation and knows the sincerity of their repentance. Second: We believe that Allah spared Jesus from this torment and humiliation at the hands of his enemies and made it appear as if they had succeeded, when in reality they did not. On the contrary, Allah raised Jesus -body and soul- to Himself, and he is currently in the heavens.
We believe in the return (second coming) of Jesus. His return will be a sign for the nearness of the Day of Resurrection. He will judge over men in accordance with Allah's guidance and legislation, slay the Antichrist, and die a natural death. No one among humanity generally nor the descendants of Israel specifically will deny his true status and reality -from what has proceeded- prior to his death.
We believe that Jesus will have lived a life of servitude to Allah by directing all acts of worship to Him alone. This is a reality he lived and taught. His life was lived in service to the Creator by worshiping of him and inviting others to the worship of Him, along with shunning the worship of created beings. This goal of his was the goal of all prophets and messengers, and it is also the goal of their adherents, thus making it the goal of the religion of al-Islam -by default-to which we the Muslims invite humanity.
